Southern Company Services
Plant Wansley Units 1-2 FGD Addition. Plant Wansley in Carrolton, Georgia, has two coal-fired boiler units and two combined cycle gas-fired units. Units 1 and 2 are being retrofitted with one scrubber per unit to significantly reduce sulfur oxide emissions. The major challenge was the completion of the design phase in a compressed schedule while keeping the two power plant units running at all times except for scheduled outages.

Oil field development. This oil field development project in the Middle East covers 20 infield flowlines for oil production water supply and water reinjection with a total length of approximately 100 kilometers within difficult terrain.

Bechtel
Jamnagar Export Refinery Project. Bechtel is collaborating on the Jamnagar Export Refinery Project (JERP) in India, which has a plot plan bigger than that of London and a target completion time of less than 36 months.

VECO Alaska
The VECO Alaska design team simultaneously engineered drill sites CD3 and CD4 for Conoco Phillips Alaska Inc. Tasked with reusing project data to generate several new drill sites and reduce engineering costs to the client, VECO generated and executed a method for reusing intelligent project data. This repeatability of design three and four times produced an estimated 20-30 percent reduction in cost of drill-site design during each data reuse.

Aker Kværner
At Aker Kvaerner, the engineering environment in maintenance, modification, and operations traditionally used separate systems to handle the many different types of project data. At any one time, there could be 50 to several hundred contracts, facilities, and projects in progress.

Roads Case Studies

KDOT Integrates Assets With Bentley Software for Better Informed Decisions: Exor Software Interfaces With Data Repositories to Eliminate Redundancies and Provide Additional Value With No Additional Data Maintenance
Prior to implementing the Exor suite of asset management solutions, KDOT used mainframe technology to coordinate its asset data. One of the difficulties faced by the state in using such a restrictive system was KDOT’s inability to expand or add reporting features onto outdated systems. Bradley added, “We initially looked at moving away from the mainframe. However, when we began investigating the market [for a new system] it became apparent that contemporary solutions existed in the market that would deliver significant advantages to us far beyond the benefits of a standard mainframe switch.”

US Army Corps of Engineers

The Banks Group
Centralized data storage using StartPoint and Riverbed WAN Optimization. The Banks Group needed real-time access to design and office documents at many locations. In the past this was achieved using remote copy procedures or a complicated setup of distributed file systems and WAN infrastructure.

North Carolina DOT: Interstate 26
Using MicroStation and GEOPAK, NCDOT was able to address unique construction and environmental challenges while creating a cost-effective design. It has been called one of the last great earthmoving projects in the United States—I-26 through North Carolina’s Appalachian Mountains.

Kentucky Transportation Cabinet: I264 at Westport Road
The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet central office design team applied their experience with InRoads and MicroStation to the content management capabilities of Bentley ProjectWise for change control of all project files and better project communication.
