The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE), Mississippi Valley Division (MVD), has implemented ProjectWise as a common environment and folder structure for all six districts within the division as well as at the Engineering Research and Development Center. This regionalization effort began immediately after Hurricane Katrina in August 2005 in anticipation of supporting the workload of the New Orleans District as the city recovered and rebuilt. The challenge was to assess the existing system conditions and level of personnel training at each district in MVD.
ProjectWise is providing engineering content management along with tight integration with USACE’s MicroStation-based systems. Its use helps eliminate the need for multiple copies to exist on separate servers with little to no version control, and for files to be transported via FTP or on physical discs among districts working on a single project. Savings to date include $100,000 and 36 man-weeks of time.
