Introducing AECOsim Energy Simulator

AECOsim Energy Simulator is a rigorous yet intuitive application for the design, simulation, and analysis of building mechanical systems, environmental conditions, and energy performance. Used in both design and retrofit work, the software contributes to better-performing, more sustainable buildings that consume less energy; provide greater occupant productivity, comfort, and safety; and control lifecycle operational energy costs for their owners.

AECOsim Energy Simulator incorporates the EnergyPlus simulation engine, the emerging standard for the industry developed by the U.S. Department of Energy. AECOsim Energy Simulator allows designers to quickly assess design trade-offs in both new construction and retrofits. It is ideally suited to meet the needs of engineers, building energy consultants, and designers who need to determine building energy loads and explore building HVAC systems and design configuration options by simulating and analyzing building energy performance.

In this session, Dr. Crawley addresses the following topics:

  • Intuitive graphical interface
  • Streamlined energy model creation from 2D or 3D (BIM) design data
  • Simplified LEED compliance through automated ASHRAE 90.1 baseline creation
  • Comprehensive HVAC System builder
  • Interactive results for peak load calculations and annual simulations
  • Detailed and customizable data managers for weather, constructions, schedules, room data, and more

Bentley's Energy Performance Series Overview

Designing successful high-performance buildings requires accurate thermal analysis and energy simulation. Bentley's Energy Performance Series (Bentley Hevacomp V8i and Bentley Tas Simulator V8i) makes it possible to better understand the energy dynamics of a building’s architecture and its systems so designers can accurately predict energy consumption, CO2 emissions, operating costs, and occupant comfort. It provides architects, engineers, and energy assessors the detailed tools needed to maximize a building’s energy performance and LEED® credits.

Mechanical Design and Analysis Simplified with Bentley Hevacomp Mechanical Designer V8i
For the first time, North American engineers and designers can now access the world’s leading building mechanical design and analysis program. Graphically lay out your energy model or import a building information model (BIM) via gbXML to verify and visualize the design. Calculate peak loads, automatically generate schedules and material lists, size pipe and duct systems, and properly select equipment from a single building energy model. It’s an indispensable program that should be in every mechanical designer’s software toolkit.

This eSeminar will address the following topics:

  • Single interface and workflow (audit trail)
  • Why use two or three products?
  • Peak load calculations
  • Duct/pipe sizing
  • Equipment selection

Calculate the Impact of Renewables on Your Designs with Bentley Tas Simulator V8i

Go beyond carbon neutral. New government mandates and incentives mean that there has never been a better time to design with renewable strategies. But, calculating the true cost and contribution of solar PV, solar thermal, wind, and other green technology can be difficult. With Bentley Tas Simulator you can accurately analyze and then incorporate the renewable contributions to your overall energy results, calculating their impact over time.

This eSeminar will address the following topics:

  • Solar PV, solar thermal, wind
  • What are your renewable contributions to overall energy usage?
  • How much electricity can you sell back to the grid?

Calculating the ROI of "Greening" Your Building: Accurately Predict Energy Savings
Chilled beans or fan coil? Solar PV or wind? Shading devices or high efficiency glazing? Today’s green buildings must not only perform, they must also demonstrate real returns to their owners. Learn how Bentley’s Energy Performance Series can help quantify your green design ideas by calculating the real ROI for the building owner.

This eSeminar will address the following topics:

  • Calculate different scenarios
  • Whether changing to more efficient HVAC systems, glazing options, external shading strategies, and others
  • New and existing building

Sustainable Design Techniques for Cold Climates
As an architect or engineer designing buildings in more temperate climates, you have many considerations in choosing a design strategy: glazing types; roof, wall and floor insulation; HVAC systems; and fresh air requirements. However, much of the “green building” spotlight has been focused on exotic cooling systems used in hot climates -- what about successful approaches for your region?

Join Bentley's team of LEED APs and experienced building services engineers to learn specific tools and techniques for minimizing building energy consumption in cold-weather climates. We will explore tradeoffs between higher construction costs vs. lower operating costs, renewable energy systems, and natural ventilation and plant schedules.

Passive Ventilation with Bentley Tas V8i
In today’s high-performance buildings, integrating successful passive ventilation strategies is key to lowering a building’s energy consumption and CO2 emissions. However, developing a successful passive strategy requires detailed analysis to ensure occupant comfort and the efficient use of the building’s plant and systems. Bentley Tas allows architects and engineers the ability to quickly evaluate the thermal characteristics of their designs and test the efficiency of different systems and plants and is the only tool capable of evaluating sophisticated passive ventilation strategies like mixed mode. It’s a must have for anyone designing high-performance buildings.
