Winner

Precision Contracting Services, Inc.
City of Port St. Lucie Fiber Optic Network Design
Port St. Lucie, Florida, United States

The primary goal of this project was to provide a sustainable, turnkey solution for a city-wide fiber-optic network in Port St. Lucie, Florida. It was achieved by deploying a master network plan that encompassed all aspects of network design, which included inside and outside plant infrastructure and supported future network growth and maintenance.

The design team used GPS locations, MicroStation, and Bentley Map to map the existing and proposed buildings, cabinets, conduit, and cable systems that would support the fiber-optic network needs of the city. Once this was in place, the Bentley Communications toolset was used to design and provide the data needed for the installation and implementation of the network.

Finalist
Consolidated Utility Services, Inc.
Optimizing Underground Asset Management
Southeast United States

Consolidated Utility Services provides utility damage-prevention services and asset-management solutions. Through one-call utility notification and private contracts, the firm’s field technicians detect and mark the presence of millions of buried utility and telecom facilities every year. All of its operating companies share a dedication to long-term customer satisfaction, which is characterized by a relentless pursuit of process and quality improvements.

This project provided a custom deployment of Bentley PowerMap Field for Communications to provide locating services for a client in southeastern United States. Field technicians are now equipped with a mobile mapping tool for data collection and analysis of underground facilities. The GPS-integrated device automatically creates maps delivered to the user based on their current GPS coordinates that provide an accurate depiction of the underground network. The end result is utility records that are accurate, up-to-date, and easily accessible.

Finalist
Telefónica 02 Czech Republic, a.s.
Digital Statements–Telecommunication Network Demarcation
Praha, Czech Republic

Telefónica 02 Czech Republic is a major operator of voice and data services in Praha, Czech Republic, with more than 7 million fixed and mobile lines covering the country. Telefónica 02 maintains complex documentation of the network and its components, providing some of this information to internal users, external partners, and the public. The existence of cable network connectivity in given areas is a frequent question.

Telefónica 02 developed an automated electronic communications system to deliver responses to requestors. The web-based solution uses Bentley Geo Web Publisher, third-party applications based on the Oracle 10g platform, and a web portal administrator. Users input a request via the web portal, the specified area of the network is searched, and a PDF file with supplemental information is emailed to the requestor.
