Dynamic Analysis
Both of the well-established dynamic analysis routines in STAAD.Pro have been enhanced with new functionality resulting from its increasing use to simulate non static loading situations.
The Response Spectrum routines have been enhanced to allow the results to be signed based on either using the dominant mode and an SRSS extraction of all the results. Additionally an option to create load cases from the mode shapes has been added.
The Time History routine for defining the excitation force or acceleration has been enhanced by allowing the excitation to be defined using a response spectrum rather than an explicit forcing function or curve.
Geometric Non-Linear Analysis
Structures that are subject to larger deformations and thus affected by the resulting second order effects require a more accurate analysis than the traditional first order analysis normally used when the loading results in small deflections and thus need to use the Geometric Non-Linear analysis. The analysis routines in STAAD.Pro have been enhanced to provide the option to control the iterations using displacement control.

Additionally the post processing of the results has been updated to provide a more informative display.
New Steel Design Code - NORSOK N004
The NORSOK N-004 tubular steel design code has been added. This allows members to be designed to ultimate limit states (and optional deflection checks to be performed for serviceability). Additionally, chord/brace joints can be checked to the NORSOK code.
Updated Design Codes
In order to provide current design practice, the following design codes have been updated:
Australian AS4100. The workflow of the Australian steel design module has been updated to incorporate the use and design of physical members.
- Eurocode 3. The European steel design code has had a number of enhancements including the ability to include torsion design on a range of standard open and closed section profiles. Additionally the design module has been enhanced with options to include the requirements of the Polish and Finnish National Annexes.
- Canadian S16-01. This has been enhanced with routines to allow class 4 slender sections to be designed as well as classes 1, 2, and 3 sections previously supported.
- Japanese AIJ. The Japanese steel design code has been enhanced with the option to include Von Mises stress checks.
- Russian SNiP 2.23-81. The Russian steel design module has had a number of small updates to address requirements specific to the Russian design code.
Pipe Analysis Integration
The demand for an improved workflow for data between the piping stress engineer and the structural engineer led to the implementation of the Piping Mode in STAAD.Pro. In order to further improve the workflow a number of major improvements have been made.

The introduction of a new database system called PipeLink(*) allows multiple pipe models to be integrated into a STAAD.Pro model.
Pipe/structural connectivity established once in one application is maintained and reflected appropriately throughout the design process, meaning no duplication with the possibility of misinterpretation.
Using PipeLink modifications to a pipe model are quickly established and the effects updated on the structural model.
The separate transfer of the structural model using the User Tools macro is no longer needed as the structural model is also contained in the PipeLink(*) database.
(* PipeLink installed with STAAD.Pro)
Send the structural displacements back to the piping engineer so they are fully aware of the behavior of the structure and don't assume that simply having a structural support to a pipe is an immovable location!
STAAD.foundation Integration
With the increasing number of STAAD.Pro engineers using STAAD.foundation to carry out their footing design, the introduction of a new STAAD.foundation mode means that it is now possible to launch the application with the STAAD.Pro data ready for the next step in the design process.
RAM Connection v7
Bentley's RAM Connection V8i (releases 6 and 7) has been included in STAAD.Pro. This includes new connection types, new codes, and design for seismic loads.
Now compatible with versions of RAM Connection V8i up through release 7.0 (SELECTseries 3).
- British Design Code - Connection design per BS5950-1:2000 (British standard) has been added. This code can now be selected along side AISC codes.
- AISC Seismic Provisions - The seismic provisions of AISC 341-05 have now been added for connections per AISC codes.
- Seismic Frame Management - A new Seismic Frames page has been added to assign the lateral seismic resisting system classification to frames for connection design. This page is also used to add plastic hinge locations to beam members.
- Base Plate Design is now available for AISC (ASD & LRFD) connections. Column base plates are available in the Smart Connections dialog and Column-Brace gusset base plates are available in the Gusset Connections dialog.
- The RAM Material dialog has been expanded to accommodate for various materials from different countries. UK steel, bolt, and weld types have been added, as well as concrete and anchor bolt materials for US base plate design.
New RC Designer Codes
Three new design modules have been added to RC Designer:
ACI 318 metric. This metric version of the US concrete design module for the design of beams and columns makes it easier to use in situations and regions where the metric version of the code is more appropriate.
- GB50010. The Chinese concrete design code has been added for the design of beams and columns.
- IS456 with Seismic Design. The Indian concrete design of columns and beams per IS 456 is now performed as per the 2000 edition of that code. The option to perform additional reinforcement detailing checks for seismic conditions per IS 13920: 1993 is also now available. This code is used for the ductile detailing of reinforced concrete structures subjected to seismic forces.
Structural Dashboard Integration
Bentley's Structural Dashboard V8i is a free utility application that allows you to manage workflows and project files as well as keep up to date with the latest products, news, and Be Communities happenings. This program can now be accessed from within STAAD.Pro and will launch whenever STAAD.Pro is started to assist you in managing your entire project workflow.

The current range of codes currently supported by the nuclear code pack include
- • ASME NF3000 1974
• ASME NF3000 1977
• ASME NF3000 1989
• ASME NF3000 1998
Eurocode 3 National Annexes
A number of countries that have signed up to replace their current steel design standards with the Eurocode, EN 1993-1-1:2005, known commonly as Eurocode 3, have published their National Annex documents. These documents make small changes to the base document and STAAD.Pro has been updated to incorporate some of these National Annex documents. The previous National Annexes of Norway and the Netherlands have been supplemented with those from the UK and France.

Russian concrete design updates
The Russian SNiP code 2.03.01-84 has been updated to accommodate new reinforcement and concrete class definitions. The design module now supports both European and Russian steel and concrete grades.
Chinese Seismic forces
Design of structures in China has been made simpler with the addition of a simplified base shear method of the seismic load generation for the Chinese code GB50011-2001.
This method is appropriate for structures not higher than 40m with deformations predominantly due to shear and with a uniform distribution of mass and stiffness in elevation or for structures modeled as a single degree of freedom system.
AISC 360-05 and IS800:2007 code updates
The U.S. steel design code, AISC 360-05 has had a number of important updates including some updated to the Direct Analysis method required in circumstances outlined in the code.
The Indian steel design code IS 800:2007 has been updated with a number of important changes including section classification routines and design processes that address shortcomings in the specification.
RAM Connection integration update
The previous RAM Connection interface has been radically restructured to align with the procedures used in RAM Connection and the engine updated to that used in RAM Connection v5.5.
Joints and connections can be automatically assigned for a set of selected members and connection designs can be grouped together. Connections edited using the RAM Connection pad retain the changes with the STAAD.Pro model design making the process more convenient for practical design situations.
Enhanced AutoPIPE integration
The popular integration of STAAD.Pro with AutoPIPE for plant engineers who have traditionally had to re-enter forces from pipe analysis is now even simpler to use. The task of locating the supports defined in the pipe model can simply be connected to the structure with a simple five-step wizard.
Find more details of these new features in the What’s New section of the online help. Additionally, there are over 130 other updates documented in the Revision History section.
