RAM CADstudio

Productivity Tool for Structural Drawing Production

Feature List

Import/Export

  • Imports RAM Structural System models creating AutoCAD drawings to your office standard.
  • Re-import your RAM Structural System model as it progresses.
  • Maintains up-to-date AutoCAD drawings with the model.
  • Track the changes to the RAM CADstudio drawings with either the RAM Changes command or the history file which is stored in your drawings directory.
  • Compare the current state of the RAM Structural System model and the CADstudio drawing at any time without re-importing the model with the RAM Compare command.
  • The command also allows import or export of specific differences without re-importing the entire RAM model.
  • Re-import deleted entities from your CADstudio drawings with the Resurrect RAM Members command; this is specially valuable if you have gone beyond being able to restore deleted members with the undo command.

Drawings

  • Customizable defaults to match office standards.
  • Automatic main plan and elevation drawings are created by importing the RAM Structural System model, and partial plans can be created by simply defining an area for the partial plan. A new drawing is created by externally referencing the defined area. New member labels, grids and dimensions are created which are completely independent from the plan from which they were created.
  • Elevations and elevation callouts can be created by selecting 2 points in a plan.
  • Layout sheets are created with the Create Drawing > Sheet command. Views can be placed or typical structural details on the layout sheet by dragging and dropping from the Navigator.
  • A Renumber Sheet command changes a sheet number and updates all references linked to that sheet in a project.
  • Drawing scale is initially set in the RAM CADstudio Import dialog box but can be changed at any time in the project with the Drawing Scale command.

Plan Grid and Level Lines

  • Flexible Plan grid lines and elevation level lines
    - Grid lines can be edited with standard AutoCAD commands such as
      Trim, Copy Offset etc.
    - Draw additional grids with the CADstudio Draw Grid Line command.
    - Create additional Grid Systems by renaming an existing grid line’s
      association to a system.
    - Additional independent rectangular and radial grid callouts can be
      created on any plan view.
    - Edit Plan and Elevation Grid Callout commands control the
appearance and visibility of grid lines and dimensions.
    - Change the name and the position of the level lines created from the
RAM model by using the Edit Levels command.
  • Automatic generation of Frame elevation callouts created The Edit Elevation Callouts command controls the appearance of the callout and the drawing view that the callout is linked to.

Members

Any structural steel member that can be imported from the RAM model can be manually modeled in a CADstudio drawing. These include:

  • Columns
  • Lateral Beam
  • Gravity Beam
  • Joist
  • Lateral Cantilever
  • Gravity Cantilever
  • Braces

Commands for manipulating the members are also available.

  • Merge Members allows two members to be merged.
  • Reposition a secondary member perpendicular to its supporting member by using the Reframe Perpendicular command.
  • Edit beams end point positions, connection type and connection mark type by using the Edit Beam End Conditions command.
  • Edit design properties of the steel members with the Change Member Design command.
  • Modify single or multiple members to match an existing member’s design with Match Member Design command.
Standardize beam end reactions shown on the plan with the Match Reactions command.

An Nlist command is available to list information about members in nested external references.

Member Labels

RAM CADstudio member labels are smart objects just like the members they label. The label describes the design of the member therefore to change the label you change the design. There are several commands that control the appearance and content the label displays.

  • Add labels to members that are unlabeled using the Design Label command.
  • Various options to edit member labels and their appearance.
  • Match a labels appearance by selecting labels singly or in mass.
  • Combine a group of identical joist labels into a note describing the number, spacing, and type of joists by using the Merge Joist Label command.
  • Edit Column Grid Identification allows the editing of the text that describes the location of the column used in column schedules.
  • Create a top of steel mark for columns on any plans where the top occurs by using the Label Column Top of Steel Elevation command.
  • Mark the actual elevation, the elevation relative to the adjacent steel on the plan, or enter the elevation to be displayed by using the Edit Column Top of Steel Elevation command.

Column Schedules

  • Automatic creation of column schedules for an entire project or split the project into phases and create individual schedules for each area.
  • Flexible editing for the Column Schedules.
  • Option to Place Column Marks on Key Plans once the column schedule has been created.

Data Exchange

  • RAM CADstudio has the ability to export a CIS/2 data file (CIMSteel Integration Standards/Version 2). This file can be used to transfer information to other software. The file is saved in the current projects drawing directory and can be read into material management software, steel detailing programs and 3d viewers.
