Interstate 40 is the primary east-west route in the State of Oklahoma. It provides the primary access for downtown Oklahoma City, as well as Tinker Air Force Base and serves as the south boundary for the downtown area. The portion of I-40 that traverses the heart of Oklahoma City is named the I-40 Crosstown Expressway.
