What's New in Bentley Geospatial Management

Bentley Geospatial Management V8 XM Edition takes advantage of the wealth of new features and innovations in ProjectWise V8 XM and also adds two significant new enhancements:

Spatially Indexing Features

Feature or component spatial indexing lets users display, search and review the properties of features in XFM DGNs from the spatial interface. It is one exciting new capability in the V8 XM Edition release of Bentley Geospatial Management.

Feature indexing is facilitated by the XML feature modeling (XFM) functionality in Bentley's core GIS applications that produce data in DGN form that can easily be indexed.

XFM DGNs are self-contained DGNS in which feature properties and other metadata is stored via the XML feature modeling (XFM) capabilities found in Bentley’s GIS applications.

In Bentley Geospatial Management V8 XM Edition, these DGNs are recognized from a spatial referencing perspective at both the file and the feature level. Individual features can be found, depicted visually on the background map and their properties reviewed without opening the associated DGN. The indexed features can also be accessed from the ProjectWise list view.

Feature level indexing support is planned for other formats in the near future, so stay tuned.

Individual features, such as these hydrants, may be indexed in Bentley Geospatial Management and reviewed without opening their associated DGN files

Indexing the content of documents and files makes it quick and simple to find what you are looking for and leverages the value of your data for immediate use. You can use searches using multiple criteria to find the information you need. In addition to indexing XFM features, you can index full text in DGNs, MicroSoft Office files, PDFs, and other formats.   Quickly searching across multiple formats for the same information is extremely powerful and a major time-saver for users.

GeoCoding by Attributes

Non-spatial information can be easily geocoded in Bentley Geospatial Management. Information such as non-referenced images or documents quickly acquire the spatial location of the associated boundary or area when the relevant document property is set.

In the example below, photographs acquire their spatial location when the Ward (District) Number property is set in the document properties.
