The City of Tulsa is a forward-looking municipality with a strong track record in public works. However, city engineers spent too much time searching for information about the location of government assets, and the city’s old mapping system needed to be upgraded. The city’s solution was to use the MicroStation GeoGraphics Oracle® Spatial interface (using OpenGIS® protocols) to migrate all mapping data into an open data store of both spatial and attribute information. Data is maintained with MicroStation GeoGraphics; Bentley Publisher provides the engineers with access to the information via the intranet and Internet.
Deploying Oracle Spatial and MicroStation GeoGraphics has opened up the mapping data so it can be accessed from any department that uses OpenGIS-enabled applications. Now that all information is accessible from the engineers’ desktops, the engineers have reduced the time spent on locating information and increased the time spent on their substantive work.
