2011 Be Inspired Award Finalist - Innovation in Water, Wastewater, and Stormwater Networks
SimTejo collects, treats, and disposes of wastewater for Lisbon and other Portuguese municipalities. Uncontrolled stormwater influent causes flooding, influx of grit and solids, and potential functional collapse. Upgrading the information management technology revealed the further need for a smart system integrated with daily operations. SimTejo developed Aquasafe to transform ample data from a planning tool to a decision-making tool.
The $100,000 project addressed specific needs for forecasting, assessing, and verifying event data as well as reporting real-time data from disparate systems. SewerGEMS enabled analysis, optimization, and forecasting of sewage transport, system operations, and energy efficiency. Aquasafe automated SewerGEMS execution and integrated the modeling tool using Bentley’s WaterObjects.NET technology.
