Cloudbreak Enhancement Project

AMEC

Pilbara, Australia
2012 Be Inspired Award Finalist - Innovation in Mining and Metals

As part of the Cloudbreak Enhancement Project Team Joint Venture, AMEC was awarded an AUD 247 million engineering, procurement, and construction contract for FMG’s Cloudbreak ore-handling plant wet front-end project in Western Australia. After an initial phase to examine the feasibility of the design and make recommendations for improved construction, maintenance, and operations, AMEC fast-tracked the delivery of the project in less than 18 months.

Rapid deployment of MicroStation, Structural Modeler, and Bentley PlantSpace enabled the multidiscipline project team to streamline workflows in an integrated, intelligent 3D modeling environment. Bentley Navigator was used to visualize design concepts, and model reviews minimized downtime for tie-ins to the existing plant. Issuing structural steelwork models directly to shop detailers reduced steelwork drafting time by 31 percent.
