When the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet inherited this interchange and expansion project, it was three years behind schedule, surrounded by rapid suburban growth and documented by hundreds of unorganized design files.
A new interstate interchange was needed in a rapidly-growing suburban area to relieve traffic congestion at nearby existing interchanges. A narrow two-lane underpass road must also be widened to five lanes to accommodate the interchange traffic flows.
Public demand for the interchange dictated a fast-track approach to planning, design and construction. The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet central office design team applied their experience with InRoads and MicroStation to the content management capabilities of Bentley ProjectWise for change control of all project files and better project communication.
