Bentley Releases ProjectWise Lifecycle Server 8.9.3 Edition

19 November 2007

New Version Features Enhanced Ability to Deliver
Complete, Consistent, and Correct Data Around the World

Bentley has just released version 8.9.3 of ProjectWise Lifecycle Server, a standards-based engineering data warehouse with a supporting suite of software applications that addresses engineering automation and total lifecycle asset information management needs. Built on ISO 15926, the open industry data model and format, ProjectWise Lifecycle Server offers unprecedented interoperability—providing the ability to share data with not only Bentley applications but also those of third parties. It is the only engineering data warehouse that offers an integrated, trusted data source for IT handover, a truly flexible data model, management of change, data quality control, full security, and now, with this new release, support for multiple languages, including Russian and Chinese, through an innovative use of modern data dictionary techniques.

Said Rob Whitesell, vice president, Bentley Building and Plant Products, “We are seeing huge growth in the use of ProjectWise Lifecycle Server on projects in remote corners of the world, especially in regions experiencing accelerated oil and gas exploration and field development, such as Russia and Asia. To bring the benefits of our ProjectWise Lifecycle Server technology to all members of these project teams as well as local operations personnel, we’ve provided full support for all character sets and the capability to change the language of the application based on a user's login. This context-sensitive natural language support is an innovative way to serve the needs of our multinational user base.”

The unique value ProjectWise Lifecycle Server software is its ability to identify and consolidate data elements from disparate sources. As information is released from different disciplines, contractors, or vendors, ProjectWise Lifecycle Server provides comprehensive quality-checking methods to ensure that accepted information is complete, consistent, and correct. Context data about where information originated and the conditions under which it has been shared is held as well.

Bentley’s ProjectWise Lifecycle Server offers a complete picture of the digital plant as it is being designed, as it is being built, and as it is being operated. Providing access to a trusted data source enables better, more cost-effective decisions for the entire life cycle of the process facility.

Enhanced capabilities of ProjectWise Lifecycle Server 8.9.3 include:

Multiple language support
ProjectWise Lifecycle Server now fully supports Unicode so that the user interface and the data layer can support any language, once translated, regardless of character set. The initial Cyrillic (Russian) translation is currently underway. The user’s language can now be associated with the user login, so team members will have the user interface translated into their local language simply by logging in.

Database updates
In addition to supporting Oracle 9.2.7 and Microsoft SQL Server 2005, ProjectWise Lifecycle Server has been certified to support both Oracle 9.2.8 and Oracle 10g. This gives users more choices in selecting their database and keeping ProjectWise Lifecycle Server up to date with the latest database technologies.

Enhancements to ProjectWise Lifecycle Server modules

  1. Users can now navigate directly to a document from inside both the Facility Explorer view as well as the Management of Change view. Therefore, users can review documents associated with change orders before publishing the changes to the live data.
  2. New Tag Register now supports lines, line segments, and documents as well as tagged items.
  3. Data Quality Manager, the module that allows users to import data from any source, now enables administrators to pause imports while in progress.

Improved XML support
Full XML import/export support provides repeatable exchange of information with other systems.

Improved performance with large data sets
Users can now import data for various sources faster. In some circumstances, object creation and import time has been cut by more than half.

Engineering companies concerned about the automated flow of information from discipline to discipline in design, prime management contractors tasked with gathering deliverables from subcontractors and vendors into a complete handover package, and operators interested in change management integrated into maintenance and revamp activities will find that Bentley’s ProjectWise Lifecycle Server 8.9.3 offers significant value in enabling their teams to meet their goals, regardless of where they are in the world or what languages are being deployed on their projects

ProjectWise Lifecycle Server 8.9.3 Edition is now available from SELECTservices Online at selectservices.bentley.com.
