EXTON, Pa. –  Bentley Systems, Incorporated has appointed Tom Clemons as vice president, Bentley Roads and Bridges Solutions. Clemons brings more than 30 years of experience, including seven years at Bentley, in civil engineering and geospatial technology applications working with federal, state, and local government agencies and the consulting firms that serve these agencies.

“Tom’s broad background in, and in-depth understanding of, civil engineering applications, coupled with his strong leadership capabilities, make him exactly the right person to set the direction for this important solutions business,” said Gabe Norona, Bentley senior vice president, Global Civil and Geospatial Solutions.

Norona continued, “This portfolio of solutions represents tremendous potential for both Bentley and our users. As our CEO, Greg Bentley, recently explained, road and rail bridges have traditionally had comparatively little benefit from IT innovations spanning the information lifecycle. However, Bentley is working hard to change all of that by providing new levels of functionality and workflow efficiency through integrated software solutions.”

In his new position, Clemons will plan, manage, and execute strategies for the expansion of Bentley’s Roads and Bridges Solutions asset-class portfolio. In addition to facilitating communication among the software development, sales, marketing, and professional services groups, he will act as spokesman for the comprehensive suite of Bentley MX Solutions, GEOPAK, and InRoads, which supports each phase of the asset lifecycle – planning, design, engineering, construction, operation, and maintenance.

Said Clemons, “What makes this position so great is that it’s all about opportunity – for the infrastructure community, for people around the world whose lives are directly impacted by the quality and integrity of our roads and bridges, and for Bentley. One of my first responsibilities will be to head up the launch of Bentley’s bridge information modeling (BrIM) initiative, which will help users optimize design decisions and provide for the reuse of architectural, engineering, and construction (AEC) information. This will speed bridge project deliveries and enable more-informed decisions for better bridge operations and maintenance.”

Clemons’ technology background includes tenures at leading hardware and software firms such as Aurigo, HP, Intergraph, Oracle, and Quantm, a Trimble company. His professional accomplishments include service as AASHTO GIS-T industry liaison, a director of URISA’s board, a member of GTC Southwest’s advisory board, and a founding member of the National Association of County Officials Technology Partner Program. In addition, Clemons is a recipient of URISA and GTC service awards and has been active for 22 years in transportation industry events and programming with AASHTO conferences and committees.
