Will Use Unlimited Access to Comprehensive GIS and Engineering Software Portfolio to Better Serve the Infrastructure Needs of its 156,000 Citizens

LONDON – BE Conference Europe – Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced that Ville de Saguenay, in Quebec, Canada, has joined Bentley’s Municipal License Subscription (MLS) program. The municipality will use its new MLS to develop an advanced geospatial information system and better serve the infrastructure needs of its 156,000 citizens.

Bentley’s MLS offers municipalities all the software they need to design and manage all their infrastructure for a fixed annual fee based on population. The breakthrough program enables them to improve productivity and reduce administrative costs by outfitting their entire mapping and engineering organizations with fully integrated software for GIS and engineering workflows. This leads to improved services and more efficient government.

Said Lévis Larouche, Ville de Saguenay’s project manager, “Bentley software is used across our entire organization in virtually every department, including Engineering Services, Urban Development, Public Works, Buildings, Information Technology, and many more. Software we commonly use includes MicroStation, MicroStation GeoGraphics, GEOPAK Site and GEOPAK Survey, Bentley Descartes, and Bentley PowerMap Field.

“For example, we recently used Bentley software to create a new mapping information system that now serves as our civil security system. The system, which won a BE Award of Excellence last year, helps us plan and prepare for natural disasters and enables us to minimize loss of life, generate inventories of damaged infrastructure, and manage repairs and rebuilding should a disaster strike.”

Using MicroStation GeoGraphics, Ville de Saguenay was able to generate an inventory of mapping information for more than 50,000 buildings, all in a few months. The maps link critical data to each building, including its role or function in the community, any fire safety plans developed for it, and the number of people working or residing in it. This data will be of critical importance to the city’s fire and rescue teams during emergencies.

Bentley’s MLS program provides municipalities with unlimited access to a comprehensive portfolio of integrated GIS and engineering software for all of their infrastructure, including:

  • Public works – roads, bridges, potable water, wastewater, and storm water infrastructure
  • Land development
  • E-government
  • Light rail design
  • Community broadband
  • Water and wastewater treatment plant design
  • Electric and gas distribution networks
  • Urban planning
  • Cadastre management
  • Public safety
  • Municipal building design
  • Mapping and 3D modeling

Because program fees are fixed, Bentley’s MLS guarantees predictable software costs and budgeting. In addition, it removes the administrative burden of complex software licenses, shortens procurement cycles, speeds project starts, and ultimately leads to more efficient government.

About Ville de Saguenay

In February 2002, Ville de Saguenay was created out of seven municipalities. With a population of 156,000, it is the sixth largest city in the province of Quebec. Located on the Saguenay River, the city is divided into three boroughs: Chicoutimi, Jonquiere, and La Baie. It encompasses almost 500 square miles of territory and extensive infrastructure, including more than 600 miles of water pipelines, almost 700 miles of wastewater pipelines, and more than 700 miles of roads and highways. About the BE Awards of Excellence

The BE Awards of Excellence, which are judged by an independent panel of industry experts and presented at an evening ceremony during the annual BE Conference (www.be.org), honor the extraordinary work of Bentley users improving the world’s infrastructure. These projects set benchmarks and showcase the imagination and technical mastery of the organizations that created them.

About BE Conference Europe

BE Conference Europe (www.be.org) is taking place this week at the Hilton London Metropole in the United Kingdom. This once-a-year learning opportunity is modeled after the highly successful BE Conference held in the United States.

The BE Conference is an annual gathering of Bentley user organizations who want to sharpen their skills and expand their knowledge. Attendees better themselves, better their organizations, and better the ways they can improve the world’s infrastructure. Year after year, the BE Conference scores a 99 percent satisfaction rating among attendees.
