Provides Staff With Broader Array of Advanced Software to Satisfy Growing Infrastructure Needs of its 200,000 Citizens

LONDON – BE Conference Europe – Bentley Systems, Incorporated today announced that Tilburg, the sixth largest city in The Netherlands, has joined Bentley’s Municipal License Subscription (MLS) program. Tilburg will use its new MLS to provide its staff with a broader array of advanced software to satisfy the growing demand for infrastructure among its 200,000 citizens spread across almost 46 square miles.

Bentley’s MLS offers municipalities all the software they need to design and manage all their infrastructure for a fixed annual fee based on population. The breakthrough program enables them to improve productivity and reduce administrative costs by outfitting their entire mapping and engineering organizations with fully integrated software for GIS and engineering workflows. This leads to improved services and more efficient government.

Said Peter Emmen, Tilburg’s CAD information coordinator, “The workflows and, hence, productivity of many of our city’s 2200 staff members, including 86 CAD professionals and 150 additional staff who regularly review their output, depend heavily on our engineering, design, and GIS software. As a result, we did a careful analysis before joining Bentley’s MLS program. We determined that increases in productivity provided by shorter software deployment times and fast, easy access to software upgrades will result in a substantial return on our investment.”

A growing number of Tilburg’s departments, including Land Surveying, Traffic Design, Urban Development, Sewer, and City Management, rely on Bentley software to design and manage the city’s infrastructure, as well as to collaborate on projects. For example:

  • MicroStation and Bentley Redline are used to help design the city’s unique mix of traditional and contemporary infrastructure.
  • Bentley Descartes XM is used to process aerial photography for mapping projects.
  • MicroStation GeoGraphics provides the city with a range of mapping, analysis, presentation, project management, coordinate transformation, data creation, validation, and cleanup tools for a variety of GIS projects.
  • The ProjectWise collaboration system helps staff members in various departments manage, find, and share CAD and geospatial content, project data, and Office documents.
  • RoPlan, which is specially designed for municipalities in The Netherlands, is used for land management and land development projects to ensure conformity to Dutch standards for data sharing and cadastral records.

Bentley’s MLS program provides municipalities with unlimited access to a comprehensive portfolio of integrated GIS and engineering software for all of their infrastructure, including:

  • Public works – roads, bridges, potable water, wastewater, and storm water infrastructure
  • Land development
  • E-government
  • Light rail design
  • Community broadband
  • Electric and gas network design
  • Water and wastewater treatment plant design
  • Urban planning
  • Cadastre management
  • Public safety
  • Municipal building design
  • Mapping and 3D modeling

Said Emmen, “Although we are already using a number of Bentley’s products and solutions, we look forward to piloting additional applications since we now have access to the entire MLS portfolio. Future deployments of Bentley software are likely to include Bentley Facilities Manager, Bentley Fiber, and Bentley Map.”

Because program fees are fixed, Bentley’s MLS guarantees predictable software costs and budgeting. In addition, it removes the administrative burden of complex software licenses, shortens procurement cycles, speeds project starts, and ultimately leads to more efficient government.

About the City of Tilburg

Tilburg, the sixth largest city in The Netherlands, has a population of 200,000 and is located in the center of an urbanized area together with the nearby cities of Breda and Eindhoven. The city’s roots go back to the days of the textile industry, which flourished in this area during the last century. The thousands of working-class families from this time period made Tilburg a city that’s always on the move.

That quality can be seen in all aspects of the city, including its architecture, which combines the historical perspective of the past with the dynamism of the present. As a result, visitors will find an old church in a pre-war neighborhood around the corner from a modern city square with skyscrapers and apartments.

About BE Conference Europe

BE Conference Europe (www.be.org) is taking place this week at the Hilton London Metropole in the United Kingdom. This once-a-year learning opportunity is modeled after the highly successful BE Conference held in the United States.

The BE Conference is an annual gathering of Bentley user organizations who want to sharpen their skills and expand their knowledge. Attendees better themselves, better their organizations, and better the ways they can improve the world’s infrastructure. Year after year, BE Conference scores a 99 percent satisfaction rating among attendees.
