Location
Gwinnett County, Georgia, USA

Project Objectives

  • Provide program and construction management for Phase I of a $250 million water reclamation facility
  • Use a 3D model generated with Bentley AutoPLANT to reduce time and interferences
  • Create a database as modeling happened, making it easy to generate a bill of materials
  • Create 3D models to provide client with precise, easy-to-follow information as the project progressed

Fast Facts

  • This plant, which uses ozone as a disinfectant, currently treats up to 20 million gallons of wastewater per day
  • The $250 million project involved moving two million cubic yards of earth, installing 21 miles of pipe and placing 90,000 yards of concrete and 10,500 tons of reinforcing steel
  • The project also involved installing 50,000 electrical switches and connections and pulling 675 miles of electrical, phone and instrumentation cable through 100 miles of conduit
  •  JJG collaborated with CH2MHILL and Precision Planning Inc to provide program and construction management for Phase I of the project
  • JJG was able to assemble a team of 10 percent fewer people than if the work was being done in 2D

The F.Wayne Hill Water Resources Center is an advanced water reclamation facility located in Gwinnett County, Georgia. The plant, one of the few water reclamation facilities in the southeast that uses ozone as a disinfectant, currently treats up to 20 million gallons of wastewater per day.

Consulting firm Jordan, Jones & Goulding (JJG) worked in conjunction with CH2M Hill Inc. and Precision Planning, Inc. to provide program and construction management for Phase One of the F.Wayne Hill Water Resources Center. The $250 million project involved moving two million cubic yards of earth, installing 21 miles of pipe and placing 90,000 yards of concrete and 10,500 tons of reinforcing steel. It also required installing 50,000 electrical switches and connections and pulling 675 miles of electrical, phone and instrumentation cable through 100 miles of conduit. JJG is currently working with the same two partners to provide design and construction management services for Phase Two of the facility.

As a pilot project for 3D modeling, the F. Wayne Hill Water Resources Center is already a success. A 10 percent staff reduction, greater accuracy and the customer’s satisfaction all indicate that 3D modeling is a valuable approach for JJG.
