The Channel Tunnel Rail Link will connect London with the Channel Tunnel, speeding passengers from London to Paris in just more than two hours – about half the time it now takes. The new line will boost local economies, particularly in the "Thames Gateway" area and by encouraging regeneration of the St. Pancras area and the East End of London.

The £5.2 billion ($8.2 billion) project is Britain’s first high-speed rail line, operating at speeds of nearly 190 mph (300 kph), and the country’s first major railway to be built in more than a century. Rail Link Engineering (RLE), a consortium of Arup, Bechtel, Halcrow, and Systra, is responsible for design and project management.

RLE chose MicroStation as the 2D and 3D platform for the project, and to help maintain organization and ownership of design data.

The project calls for integration of data from some 15 design disciplines, from architects and civil engineers to rail and signaling engineers.
