Ted Stephens

Rail and Transit Solutions Executive

With over 30 years in the rail industry, Ted Stephens started his career working on bridge construction, track construction and train operations. Stephens specialized in advanced computer graphics systems which he applied to rail design.

Throughout his career Stephens has worked with major engineering consultancies, designing and delivering projects such as Channel Tunnel, Channel Tunnel Rail Link and high speed line projects in Germany. 

In 1993 Stephens joined Infrasoft Limited, and more recently Bentley Systems, creating and delivering software solutions for the rail industry worldwide. As Bentley’s Rail and Transit Solutions Executive, Stephens now spearheads a growing set of industry leading applications that include Bentley Rail Track and Bentley Rail - Overhead Line Design, Signal Sighting—using virtual reality, signaling design, gauging / vehicle clearance control, advanced track network modeling, and Optram operations and maintenance solutions.

Stephens is a frequent speaker at international conferences, presenting forward-looking ideas for rail industry design and maintenance products. He is regarded as one of the leading experts in his field.

Ted Selig

Director, Rail Operation and Maintenance Solutions
Bentley, United States

As CEO, chairman of the Board, and co-founder of Optram, Incorporated, Ted Selig developed the Optram Railway Infrastructure Management System and has co-authored and presented papers on the application of Optram systems to the freight railways and transit railroad industry.  Selig now operates as Bentley’s director of Railway Operation and Maintenance Solutions.

With 16 years experience developing and managing large scale, real time software systems, Selig continues to promote business relationships, provide systems advice, and contribute to the system architecture for projects with Amtrak, CSX, Boston’s Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority (MARTA), New Jersey Transit, and the Association of American Railroad’s Transportation Technology Center, Incorporated (TTCI) in Pueblo, Colorado. Selig provides technical and senior corporate leadership on Bentley projects while leading Bentley’s Optram product development.

Selig holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, as well as a Master of Science degree in Computer Systems from Northeastern University.

Peter Jacobs

Director, Professional Services – Transportation (Rail and Civil) Solutions

Peter Jacobs has worked in the European rail industry for 16 years. Early in his career, Jacobs specialized in major rail asset management programs in relation to the transformation of the London Underground Tube network.

In 2000, Jacobs was nominated to oversee implementation of an asset information management regime for the Public Private Partnership (PPP) programme of London Underground. This led to an appointment as the Head of Information Management for the PPP consortium Metronet.

In 2005, following three years as a consultant for Rail Asset Management Strategies development, Jacobs and his family moved from London to Melbourne, Australia to set up and run Bentley’s Civil Professional Services. Currently, Jacobs directs Bentley’s implementation of transportation solutions in Australia.

Jacobs holds a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering degree and an MBA from Westminster University in London. Additionally, he has completed the Strategy Development and Business Process Change programme from Cranfield (UK) and has since practiced and presented on the practicalities of rail assets and information management strategies at recent Australian Rail Industry events.

P. Kevin Moore

Senior Consultant / Railroad Track, Structures and Components

Having worked with large complex enterprise database systems for over 15 years, Kevin Moore has substantial database design and project management expertise. He has managed four key Optram railroad database projects. His responsibilities have encompassed the management and executive arenas.

In addition to business development, Moore has taken the lead in implementing and maintaining complex multimillion-dollar, mission critical systems. As a Bentley rail expert, Moore’s responsibilities include the design, development, integration, deployment, and support of Optram systems to meet individual customer’s needs, goals, and desires. Moore has managed implementation and development of Optram systems at key client sites such as Transportation Technology Center, Incorporated (TTCI), the Massachusetts Bay Transportation Authority (MBTA), Amtrak (Northeast Corridor), and the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA) project. Moore has been responsible for project management, system solution, workflow, and best practice directives including creation of a relational database; the implementation of a graphic interface; and the interface with new data systems and import tools for geometry and maintenance work.

As an authority on Optram linear data modeling, Moore has conducted classes and best practice seminars at client sites and rail organizations, including the American Railway Engineering and Maintenance-of-Way Association (AREMA) and the American Public Transportation Association (APTA). He has a B.S. in Business Administration with a concentration in MIS from the University of Vermont as well as an M.S. in Counseling Education from the University of Vermont.

Himanshu H. Patel

Technical Director - Asset Class Solutions
Senior Solutions Executive

Himanshu Patel has extensive experience in project management, systems engineering, application engineering, and systems safety certification programs. His project involvement has included design, executive management, and project execution. He has provided signal, communication, and electrical design/engineering and management on numerous projects. He possesses a strong understanding of railroad operating rules, in addition to Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) rules, standards and instructions applicable to railroad and rail transit systems.

Patel has managed the integration, commissioning, planning, and final design of systems and application engineering for various projects-- including writing systems architecture requirements, technical specifications, and end user solutions.

Patel is a member of the following organizations:

Gerald Cardillo

Optram Product Chief Technical Officer
Bentley, United States

Gerald Cardillo has extensive experience in designing and developing data analysis, database, and user interface capabilities for rail transportation, satellite telescopes, air traffic control, and radar systems for both commercial and government application.

Cardillo was a co-founder of Optram and a key contributor to the design and implementation of the Optram system. He has led key implementation efforts for our foremost clients-- including Amtrak. He has had significant roles in the enhancement of the Optram system and the new Optram Modules.

Cardillo holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Systems Engineering from the University of Massachusetts.
