Optimizing Engineering
Bentley offers a comprehensive environment for creating and designing work orders and generating multi-page work prints according to telecommunications industry standards. A high-productivity design and drafting tool, MicroStation Telco, provides the engineer with an easy-to-learn, easy-to-use toolset for designing fiber and copper network facilities on new or existing land bases.
MicroStation Telco’s workflow solution brings a broad range of benefits to outside plant engineering. The primary benefit is speed – work orders can be completed more quickly using MicroStation Telco. Through a feature-rich tool set, MicroStation Telco lets a designer capture facility placement details, bills of materials data, loop make-up reports, terminal serving addresses (or wiring limits), work steps, and contract work information during the design process. Because MicroStation Telco is easily integrated with construction systems, this data can be checked in real time for validity and completeness. This upfront validation improves the quality of the design and reduces the number of revisions and the amount of rework required during the construction process.
MicroStation Telco easily integrates with workflow systems, information management systems and construction management systems, and facility assignment systems allowing key data to be shared outside the design environment. By implementing implementation of industry standards, MicroStation Telco provides for a true job layout, letting users attribute facilities and work with industry standard files at any time during the design process. MicroStation Telco comes with a robust set of redlining tools for project managers to mark up engineering work prints.
Configured for Time-Saving
An extensive set of facility creation and placement tools for cables, terminals, devices and structures is customized to fit the needs of engineers. Further, placement, attribution, reporting and permit requirements can be customized as needed. XML configuration allows the customization of the application interface to be tailored to specific workflows. Facility types, dialog box controls, and data entry points are all highly configurable via an XML configuration file without the need for any code changes. MicroStation Telco can be configured to work in standalone mode or network mode, enabling the switch from network mode to standalone mode in the event of a network failure, allowing design work to continue.
Designed for High Productivity
A high-productivity work order design tool, MicroStation Telco supports the creation, updating and maintenance of outside plant information. Engineers can import existing data and modify it to include the new plant, or create a land-base to suit their needs. Features such as dynamic border update from the job management system, and data validation against a business, engineering, and financial rule sets let MicroStation Telco minimize the duplication of data during the entire design process. Because MicroStation Telco handles a wide variety of data types, utilizing a developer’s subdivision plans and plans from department of transportation files is an easy import process.
MicroStation Telco offers a host of time-saving design features. Job templates enable users to produce “templated” jobs that are performed frequently, where only job specific information needs to be edited or changed to release the job to construction. A count editor captures count information for cables and equipment in a user-friendly table, checks logical counts, and keeps a running tally of cable sheath counts as information is entered. A border manager lets users manage all aspects of border placement, numbering, and metadata information, and road tools allow the placement of custom road and intersection geometries. Other timesavers include “hot cursor” technology for loading data in the design, “smart addressing” algorithms, and MicroStation Telco’s “smart defaulting” pick-lists which make educated guesses as to what data is populated in dialog boxes to reduce data entry and increase accuracy.
MicroStation Telco’s “one click” technology lets a designer generate permit drawings directly from engineering work prints with a single click. Also, MicroStation Telco captures bills of materials data in the design process for integration with procurement and construction management systems. Field redlining is supported as well.
