Utilities in England and Wales conduct approximately 4 million roadworks (or streetworks) projects annually to repair gas, water, electricity, telephone, or cable utilities; install new services; patch nearly 1 million potholes; and resurface roads.
These projects cost an estimated £4.2 billion each year. The volume of work has pressured the utilities and their contractors to plan and coordinate the work with each other to minimize traffic disruption while maintaining a high availability of services to customers.
To provide streetworks visibility to utilities, local authorities, and the public, Bentley, in collaboration with local authorities and utilities, offers these stakeholders the Roadworks Online (RWO) service, a national online roadworks portal that receives live streetworks data from local authorities and utilities and displays this data in a consumer mapping portal.
