ProjectWise Collaboration System Overview
ProjectWise is a system of collaboration servers that enables distributed enterprises and related organizations to successfully deliver infrastructure projects. Its core capabilities allow users to manage, find, and share CAD and geospatial content, project data, and Office documents. The V8 XM Edition provides powerful new tools specifically for organizations running a portfolio of projects.

Microsoft SharePoint
There is a great deal of market momentum around Sharepoint and the Office system. For instance, there are over 400 million customers using Office, and to date, more the 80 million licenses have been sold for Sharepoint Portal Server 2003. With Microsoft Office Sharepoint Server 2007, this momentum is continuing and even increasing—view this presentation to learn about what is new and exciting in the platform.

ProjectWise StartPoint / Microsoft Office SharePoint Interface
The interface is clear, simple and easy to navigate with different Document Libraries for design documents. Each Document Library can have its files sorted using by name, date modified, modified by etc. Document Library Filters can also be applied to reduce the number of files displayed for fast finding.


Edit in MicroStation
ProjectWise StartPoint integrates MicroStation, MicroStation PowerDraft and AutoCAD with the Microsoft Office SharePoint interface. To "Check Out" and "Open" a file including all references the user selects the "Edit in MicroStation" option from the document menu.


MicroStation V8 XM Interface
MicroStation V8 XM is one of the client CAD applications for ProjectWise StartPoint. In the top menu bar a new "ProjectWise" menu is present offering easy access to other ProjectWise StartPoint functions.



ProjectWise StartPoint and Reference Files
MicroStation V8 XM connects directly to ProjectWise StartPoint for locating and loading Reference Files. All Reference Files are cached on the local desktop computer for significant performance gains. The Reference Dialog will notify the user when a reference file needs to be updated during a session.

Attaching a New Reference File
MicroStation V8 XM can attach new Reference Files directly from the ProjectWise StartPoint Server. The full folder structure is available to navigate and select the right Reference File.




Creating a New File in ProjectWise StartPoint
A MicroStation V8 XM user can create a "New" DGN or DWG file directly on the ProjectWise StartPoint Server.





Selecting the right template file
The user can select the right SEED file from a list of pre-defined project SEED Files for every new file created.





Opening a File in MicroStation V8 XM from ProjectWise StartPoint
A MicroStation V8 XM user can "Open" a DGN or DWG file directly from the ProjectWise StartPoint Server. The full folder structure is available to navigate and select the right file. All associated Reference Files will be downloaded locally and cached at the same time to maintain fidelity.

Save As from MicroStation V8 XM using ProjectWise StartPoint
A MicroStation V8 XM user can "Save As" any DGN or DWG file directly to the ProjectWise StartPoint Server. The full folder structure is available to navigate to select the right location for the file.



Publish a PDF from MicroStation V8 XM to ProjectWise StartPoint
A MicroStation V8 XM user can "Print" any DGN or DWG file directly to the ProjectWise StartPoint Server and save the file as a PDF. The full folder structure is available to navigate to select the right location for the file.


Automatic upload of PDF file to ProjectWise StartPoint
The new PDF file is transferred to the ProjectWise StartPoint server immediately for online review and comment cycles.




ProjectWise StartPoint File Versions
With ProjectWise StartPoint files can be versioned when edited and comments added when the changed file is checked back into the Microsoft SharePoint Server.




Version tracking
These versions enable a history of the file to be constructed overtime so that the design development can be tracked and rolled back if necessary.


ProjectWise StartPoint Help files

Thank you for your interest in ProjectWise StartPoint, the entry-level collaboration tool based on Microsoft Office SharePoint for MicroStation and AutoCAD users.

To install, configure and run ProjectWise StartPoint you will need to first install SharePoint on a server and install the ProjectWise StartPoint Service on the same SharePoint server.

The ProjectWise StartPoint Service includes custom site definitions for creating new ProjectWise StartPoint sites and also delivers additional integration items for the MicroStation + AutoCAD / connection to SharePoint.
