Engineering and Management for Wastewater Networks

Advantages

Comprehensive Engineering Solution

Bentley Wastewater addresses all operations of a typical wastewater network through an integrated GIS environment. Users can create a detailed wastewater system of pipes, valves, and other user-defined system components, while maintaining crucial network connectivity. Wastewater network design and maintenance activities are tracked via work orders. Maps, bills of materials, work prints, plans, profiles, node diagrams, and other documentation can be printed, plotted or published in a wide variety of formats including PDF, DGN, DWG, and others.

Intelligent Network Model

A simple, yet comprehensive connectivity model consisting of nodes, pipes, and components (for example: valves, pumps, catchment areas) form the basis of the Bentley Wastewater intelligent network model. Create detailed models of storm water, sanitary, and combined systems. Bentley Wastewater placement and editing commands enforce connectivity rules and maintain the logical connectivity in a relational database while creating intelligent facilities according to the model.

Smart Placement and Editing

You can place, modify, and attribute intelligent wastewater system facilities taking advantage of the power of MicroStation. The network can be created from various sources including existing data in DGN, DWG, SHP or from scanned maps or imagery. Bentley Wastewater ensures the integrity of the network connectivity and of the intelligent facilities according to your standards.

Placement and editing commands maintain distance, depth, and connectivity of pipes and manholes and verify drainage rules, checking the consistency of terrain and manhole elevations. Warnings are provided for terrain over cover, pipe over cover, and backslope conditions. Dynamic, database-driven facility annotation enables you to change existing annotation using simple update functions.

Network Analysis

Reports generated from user defined “what-if” scenarios allow you to determine such things as what service accounts would be affected by specific changes in the network. Bentley Wastewater provides powerful tracing utilities that show the direction of flow upstream and downstream from a given node, or show the direction of flow based on slope.

Pipe isolation trace and reporting identifies valves that need to be closed to isolate a specific section of pipe. The trace produces a report as XML that can be viewed through a simple HTML page using XML style sheets, making the reporting system completely customizable.

Manage Observations and Ancillary Information

Bentley Wastewater can import observation logs generated during CCTV inspections. CCTV images are linked to observation points along the network for easy access during analysis. Users can also import virtually any video inspection data for use in preventive maintenance planning

Bentley Water users can also manage other types of information related to the water network that reside outside the GIS such as spreadsheets, photos, documents, or multimedia via the Linked Details feature of Bentley Wastewater. Information can be directly associated with components of the network model and viewed or attached within the Bentley Wastewater session. Features with linked information can be visually depicted and located in a variety of ways.

At an enterprise level, Bentley Water users can take advantage of the information and workflow management capabilities of Bentley Geospatial Management and ProjectWise.

Integration with Bentley SewerGEMS

Bentley Wastewater provides both an import and export function for sharing network information. The export function can also be used to provide information to analysis and modeling applications. Using the export feature, network information is quickly and easily provided to Bentley SewerGEMS via its Bentley Wastewater Import process.

Bentley SewerGEMS gives you the ability to estimate and allocate sewer flows accurately and easily for separate wastewater, stormwater, or combined collection systems. SewerGEMS' fully-dynamic engines model overflows, looped sewer networks, wastewater pump stations, and even open channels and detention ponds.  SewerGEMS offers a broad range of methodologies to help engineers allocate sanitary sewer loads and also offers built-in stormwater hydrology and calibration.

Publishing Wastewater Network Information

By using Bentley Geo Web Publisher, information created with Bentley Wastewater can be published through a Web browser to internal and external constituents, who require varying levels of access to data. Casual desktop or field users can use Bentley PowerMap Field to view, query, and redline the network information.

Create Useful Output in a Snap

With Bentley Wastewater, it’s a snap to create output for virtually any purpose. All the power of MicroStation plotting is available to users along with the ability to generate map books in Adobe PDF format. Bentley  Wastewater gives you tools to add grids, legends, annotation, and marginalia to maps or work prints, as well as create sophisticated thematic representations of the network. Bentley  Wastewater also provides for automatic plan and profile generation, pipe terrain profiles, node diagrams, and includes the capability to generate engineering reports, such as bills of material.

All the Advantages of a GIS Platform

Bentley Wastewater is built on a GIS platform, MicroStation GeoGraphics 2004 Edition.  This enables users to take advantage of all its features, including spatial analysis, buffer zone generation, and many more. Image integration via MicroStation Raster Manager provides access to a wide range of image data including aerial photographs, satellite imagery and scanned maps and drawings.

Support for Oracle Spatial provides flexibility for storing Bentley Wastewater data in Oracle to OpenGIS® standards. You can opt to store data in Oracle Standard Edition or Oracle Enterprise Edition with the Spatial option. This allows you to manage all wastewater facility data through a single storage mechanism.

Completely Customizable

Bentley Wastewater is completely customizable, from dialogs to attributes. With standard text files, you can completely develop your network as it exists with the pipes, materials and components actually used. The dialogs are dynamically configured to reflect the options listed in these text files. Dialog items can be arranged at your discretion and automatic annotation can be completely configured.
