What's New in Geo Web Publisher?

Thematic Map Generation and Thematic Symbolization

Geo Web Publisher now lets users thematically analyze information through resymbolization based on database properties through commonly used methods such as unique values, equal ranges, or equal count. A thematic object in the form of a legend is automatically generated to aid in interpretation of results and presentation. Default symbolization sets are pre-configured in the Site Author and site users can also be enabled to interactively define presentation parameters to best suit their need or preference. Thematic mapping may be combined in workflows with reporting and overlay queries to perform comprehensive analysis scenarios.

Enhanced Site Author and Output Web Site

The Geo Web Publisher Site Author is a simple-to-use client tool for web site creation and configuration. It has recently been enhanced to provide support for the configuration of thematic map presentations. Through the Site Author, the layers and database sources included in a thematic map can be specified along with the thematic criteria for Equal Count, Equal Range, or Unique Value presentations. For Unique Value presentations, included/excluded values are specified along with the method of value aggregation into groups. Legend properties defining the legend's appearance and the default color ramp for the thematic presentation may also be specified.

The Site Author has also been enhanced to allow for specification of an overview object in your web site design. The overview object depicts the location a user is zoomed into in the context of an overview of the entire geographic extent of the information available through the website. It is fully customizable. It can host a specific map dedicated for the site overview, and the navigation rectangle symbology is easy to define with color and transparency. It also supports specific map navigation tools. The main map can be instantly centered by a click in the overview object.

Object Swapping, meaning the ability to dynamically change control objects in a location on the website layout based on user request, was implemented in Geo Web Publisher and is configurable through the enhanced Site Author. This means, for example, that a tabular report object might occupy the same screen space a thematic legend occupies at other times, depending on the users' actions.

Administrators define how layers will be displayed in display objects. These allow users to easily turn on or off layers. Geo Web Publisher now displays layers in the display object based on the map context. This means, for example, that if a layer can only be turned on at a given scale range, the display controls is “scale aware,” meaning the layer will be dimmed in the display object when the map display is outside the allowable scale range.

In the V8 XM Edition, a new type of layer is available that can be used in WMS as well as Map Viewer publishing. It provides for automatic generation of symbols, such as a north arrow, scale bars, and identifying text.

The enhanced Site Author also includes a number of usability enhancements for Site Creators and additional validation features in the Web Site Administration tools.

WMS (Web Map Service) Server Support

Geo Web Publisher now supports the Web Map Service (WMS) defined by the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC). The WMS 1.1.1 Server is supported in Geo Web Publisher, making it possible for any WMS client to view information published by Geo Web Publisher. The service works physically by publishing any information available in Geo Web Publisher to WMS clients as raster JPEG or PNG. This enhancement Provides for interoperability with other vendor solutions supporting the popular WMS specification. This image shows a map published in Google Earth using the WMS capabilities.

WMS (Web Map Service) Client Support

Geo Web Publisher also supports WMS clients. This means Geo Web Publisher can integrate information from any WMS compliant server. WMS layers are added to maps published by Geo Web Publisher; a map layer may be a combination of one or more WMS layers. This makes it possible to take advantage of the wealth of information publicly available through WMS servers and to facilitate interoperability with other data published by other vendor solutions.

Dynamic Data Sources

Geo Web Publisher now supports dynamic data sources. This means, for example, that when a database is being updated by a real time device such as GPS, Geo Web Publisher will update the published map on-the-fly instead of presenting outdated data.

iDPR Desktop integration with the Geospatial Server

The iDPR prepublishing tool is now fully integrated with the Bentley Geospatial Server and ProjectWise.  This means that organizations can leverage the versioning and workflow knowledge in the Geospatial Server or ProjectWise to determine and initiate needed updates to information that has been prepublished for Geo Web Publisher. This ensures Web users are always in sync with information managed by the Geospatial Server or ProjectWise. The iDPR Desktop can be run from the Windows scheduler and provides for prepublishing of multiple file formats, including DGN, DWG, and others.

Translucent iDPRs can be generated from either V8 XM DGN files with transparency or with pen tables. An enhanced data rendition engine publishes data with optimal fidelity.
