TravelSmart is a successful Western Australian community-based program that encourages people to use alternatives to traveling in their private car. The approach of TravelSmart is to motivate people to use alternatives such as walking, cycling, public transport, car pooling, or working from home. It is about encouraging a lot of people to make small changes.
Some of the products the program produces are information rich transport maps. These TravelSmart maps are delivered free to every home within the project area.
All products and promotional activities of the program are carried out in a professional and positive environment. As maps produced for the program will be delivered to over 10,000 households and individuals, they need to be current, useful, and of the highest quality. From a promotional view, these maps need to continue the high standards set by the entire program and be of high cartographic quality and printed to those same high standards.
Fremantle is a port city, 12 kilometers (8 miles) southwest of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Fremantle is home to major industry and community institutions. These include a fishing industry, the state's premier container port facility, and significant cultural, commercial, educational, health, and tourist centres. The original Fremantle TravelSmart map was produced in 2004. Since then, three revisions have occurred. The original request for the map was received in October 2003 with the final product printed fout months later in January 2004. The most recent revision was completed in February 2007 after the request was received in December 2006.
