BE Conference 2006: Interdisciplinary Integration
Presented by:  Werner Kuhn, Professor, Institute for Geoinformatics, University of Munster, Germany
Summary:

Interdisciplinary integration– operability with other engineering and building disciplines. Expanding GIS to Geospatial is only the first step. Next, boundaries with other disciplines will (have to) go. A common data infrastructure been all geospatial, civil and building disciplines has the potential to increase the efficiencies of these groups and result in better constructed and more soundly managed infrastructure.

What you can learn:
  • Today's integration challenges
  • INSPIRE - an European example
  • Technology arguements on interoperability, feature, and location
  • The semantic issue - lost in translation
  • Ontologies versus practicality
  • Examples - a glimpse of a parallel universe
  • Conclusion
