BE Conference 2006: Europhia and Utopia in GI Science and Practice Duration: 0:45:37
Presented by:  Mauro Salvemini, Professor, Universita di Roma La Sapienza
Summary:

A common geometric framework for infrastructure requires a re-examination of locational requirements.  The map is no longer merely a spatial representation of related data for the loose needs of map-based reporting, but a highly accurate context for infrastructure in 3D.

Accuracy, both positional and geometric, is critical. Neglecting data maintenance is a fundamental threat to the use of data across disciplines. Inaccurate or outdated data can seriously reduce the usefulness of the data.  A shift is needed in philosophy towards a lifecycle data maintenance cycle and the integration of the many disciplines that contribute to infrastructure.
