The Dutch State Property Service (part of Ministry of Finance in the Netherlands) represents the government as owner of real estate property. They are responsible for maximizing profitability of the government's real estate. This task is accomplished by selling surplus real estate, granting user rights such as tenancy, long-lease and rental. They also assist other government departments in purchasing real estate properties and advise the government in real estate issues. Four years ago, they started a program that focused on full implementation of SAP R/3 as a replacement for a legacy information system.
SAP Real Estate (RE) and Project Systems (PS) are among the implemented SAP modules. SAP RE helps manage the properties and SAP PS supports management of real estate sale and acquisition projects. To realize a need for visualization related to the properties, a GIS implementation began at the end of 2004 to integrate GIS with SAP RE and PS. The GIS solution is based on Bentley software and solutions. The SAP-GIS integration is designed for visualising state properties and displaying all the activities on it. In this way, the Dutch State Property Service can manage their contracts and projects, deliver geographic information for (management) decision making and support (geographic) information exchange with other government organizations.
