Pipe Renewal Planner module  NEW!
Optimization of Pipe Renewal

Pipe Renewal Planner is a decision support tool that provides utility owner/operators with a quantifiable and reproducible best practice for optimizing the replacement and rehabilitation of water mains.

As a condition assessment tool, Pipe Renewal Planner ranks pipe links based on several aspects, including property- and performance-based criteria.

Benefits that result include improved asset planning, increased distribution capacity, and maximum returns on capital expenditures.

Pipe Renewal Planner is one of the efficiency and optimization modules available for WaterCAD. It is included with WaterGEMS.

Modeling Workflow Recommendations for Pipe Renewal Planner

Bentley recommends using Pipe Renewal Planner to integrate pipe scoring and ranking as part of the asset management process. Steps to run Pipe Renewal Planner are:

  1. Build the hydraulic model.
  2. Create (and run) criticality and fire flow simulations, in order to obtain capacity and criticality scores.
  3. Import pipe break data and set break groups.
  4. Run pipe break analysis in order to estimate projected break rate, present worth, and annual cost.
  5. Start Pipe Renewal Planner.
  6. Set up any user-defined aspects, such as year installed, material, neighborhood, or any property including user defined fields.
  7. Set up weights and options.
  8. Compute to obtain pipe scores.
  9. View results, using color coding and annotation or FlexTables and the property grid.

Prioritization of pipes for renewal
By improving the quality of asset planning, risks of infrastructure failure are reduced and the life of infratructure lengthened. Learn how to identify piping assets that need attention based on pipe breakage, capacity, or criticality using the new Pipe Renewal Planner module.

What's New in WaterCAD, WaterGEMS, and HAMMER V8i (SELECTSeries 2)
Find out about the new features available in the latest WaterCAD, WaterGEMS, and HAMMER V8i released in November 2010. Discover how the new Pipe Renewal Planner module prioritizes pipes for renewal and the new i-models enable the sharing of results among a wider audience and learn about a more convenient way to model air valves. In addition, many more new features will be presented.

What You Need to Know to Install Pipe Renewal Planner

Prerequisite: A WaterCAD or WaterGEMS license is required to run Pipe Renewal Planner.

The technical requirements for Pipe Renewal Planner are the same as the requirements for WaterCAD or WaterGEMS (whichever product you are using Pipe Renewal Planner with).
