Elisa Networks’ business and asset information systems, such as the customer, agreement and equipment space databases had no interfaces between them, making space management difficult. The need for better management is more critical now that the European community’s telecommunication regulations require that network operators make their telecom infrastructure available to third parties. To fulfill these requirements, infrastructure owners need accurate, fast and documented access to central office floor plans.

The Document and Premises Management System built on Bentley software brings all of the floor plans under Bentley ProjectWise control. Access to individual central offices is detailed on a per-customer, per-room basis. All of the rack cabinets are currently being entered into the system, in which any asset’s location and availability can be determined by a simple query.

The solution enables Elisa to document compliance with the European Community’s telecommunication regulations. Additionally, Bentley’s solutions help Elisa improve efficiency, both during design and in operation. Searching for available floor or rack space, which could formerly take up to several hours, is now done in a matter of minutes.
