When a new road is planned, the route may take it through property not owned by the government. The Danish Road Directorate’s GIS team in its Construction and Operation Department, Anlæg og Drift, created LARGIS (Land Acquisition GIS) to help them to better understand the impact of specific routes, to determine a fair and accurate location of current highways and to manage cadastral information and land parcel creation more proactively. LARGIS was built using a combination of MicroStation GeoGraphics and locally developed third-party MicroStation applications.
The system automatically stores information created through MicroStation GeoGraphics in the connected Oracle database and upports the modeling of present and potential land ownership. LARGIS automates the process of identifying land for appropriation, helps the Directorate in planning and land management and provides intuitive maps that assist the Directorate in their discussions with landowners.
