While upgrading to MicroStation V8, the design department for urban roads in the city of Paris—which includes 75 designers distributed over 10 sites—decided to make the best use of the new capabilities of the software to harmonize design methods and renderings. Goals included facilitating design improvements, reducing production times, and giving consistency to the documents created by various departments.

To date, productivity gains have been significant. For example, extraction, initialization, and plot preparation, which used to take a few hours to complete, are now done in a matter of minutes and with greater accuracy. In addition, design quality has been enhanced, due in part to more alternative designs being studied.
